Retirement isn't on the Saunterer's near-action list, for Isaac Asimov’s reason:
Staying power is an attitude. At the heart of it is a love of what you’re doing. If I stopped writing today, my incoming royalties would let me live comfortably for the rest of my life. But last year, when I turned 65, I threw a huge non-Retirement Birthday Party for myself. It was the happiest birthday I ever had because I realized that no one could force me to retire.
If the world should suddenly come to an end, I hope it would find me at work. To me, stopping is like being defeated and I don’t like being defeated. To quit is to kill the spirit that gives life its meaning and worth.
