Thinking of getting a dog? Then think "rescue dog." Augusten Burroughs tells why:
The thing is, people who rescue animals don’t do it for the money, obviously. Or the glamorous working conditions. They do it for love. Pet stores are businesses and the dogs and cats they sell are the merch. When you rescue a dog, the dog knows it has been rescued.
I really believe that humans and dogs have lived together for so many thousands of years that the bond we form is profoundly meaningful and essential. I would tell this person, understand this dog you want to adopt has not just a brain but a mind. You will both be challenged. And better for it, in the end.
