Did Alisom Balsom grow up not playing with dolls? Was she a prisoner of unaggressive female personality? We pick her as a base of comparison for you to think about as you read what trumpet player Rolf Smedvit thought generally about women’s ability with brass instruments:
Women have a really tough time playing brass instruments because your basic nature is not terribly aggressive. Boys, I mean, we grow up at the age of 5, you know, and we’ve playing in the dirt and you guys are playing with dolls. There is a design problem inherent in the basic personalities of women when it comes to brass instruments.
