Ursula K. Le Guin on imagination

From her obituary on pg 29 of the 1 March, 2018, issue of Nature comes this:

    I believe that all the best faculties of a mature human being exist in the child, and that if these faculties are encouraged in youth they will act well and wisely in the adult, but if they are repressed and denied in the child they will stunt and cripple the adult personalty. And finally, I believe that one of the most deeply human, and humane, of these faculties is the power of imagination.

Don DeLillo on the purpose of literature

    Hear Don DeLillo:

    It’s all about time, dimwit time, inferior time, people checking watches and other devices, other reminders. This is time draining out of our lives. . . . This is the thing that literature was meant to cure. The epic poem, the bedtime story.
